Columbus, Ohio–Just a little over one month since North Market announced the opening of the extremely popular German Village boutique pastry shop Pistacia Vera, the Market is announcing yet another German Village hot spot or as some say “institution” is coming to North Market. Katzinger’s Delicatessen is opening its second location, Katzinger’s Little Deli, its first in its nearly 30-year history. “This marks a special moment for us. We first opened our (German Village) deli in 1984 and what better way to head into our 30th anniversary than to open a new location in a landmark like the North Market?,” states Diane Warren, owner.

The Market has been searching for the perfect partner, specifically a best in class deli. “The pressure is always high when we fill an open spot at North Market,” says Executive Director Rick Harrison Wolfe. He continues, “With over 1 million visitors per year from around Central Ohio and the world, we always need to be conscious of the needs and desires of our diverse constituency. Part of our mission is to be best in class in everything we do and that means our merchants need to follow the same mantra. After all, the Market and its merchants are ambassadors for Columbus.”

Katzinger’s definitely meets that provision. The delicatessen has been a feature on Food Network’s “On the Road” blog, as well as the hit show “The Best Thing I Ever Ate.” Numerous celebrity visitors including Sheryl Crow, Lyle Lovett, James Taylor, Adam Sandler, and Former President Bill Clinton are a testament to the popularity of this extraordinary deli. The deli is known for its unique sandwich combinations, portion sizes and the help-yourself pickle barrels. The “Little Deli” as Warren affectionately calls it, will have a smaller menu, 10 of the flagship’s most popular items of which customers will be able to create more than 30 different sandwich combinations. There will also be an “Only at the Market” exclusive sandwich that will consist of Rachel’s addictive pimento spread, roast turkey, applewood smoked bacon and tomato grilled on farm bread. Of course, Katzinger’s Little Deli will have the famous pickle barrels!

The deli, scheduled to open in April of 2014, will be located at the southwest end of the North Market across from the other Food Network favorite, Omega Artisan Baking. Omega was acknowledged as having the “Best Breakfast in Ohio” by the network’s companion magazine.
North Market shoppers and guests are sure to be pleased with this announcement. This marks the second new addition to North Market since Rick Harrison Wolfe took the helm in May of 2013.
