A Note From Dave

Dear North Market Shopper,

It's a new year and here we go. I've got "Ten Thoughts for the New Year," and ten ways to take advantage of this landmark on 59 Spruce Street:

1. Eat Fresher. Fresh food tastes better. We have an amazing array of the freshest, finest food anywhere in Columbus. Fresh, local food simply tastes better. Way better.

2. Learn more about craft brewing. Craft beer is the new wine and one of fastest growing beverage segments in the category. Jen and Collin at The Barrel and Bottle are experts in the field. They can get you started on a fun, new journey.

3. Get to know your butcher. David and Cheryl. Annmarie and Jerry. Doug, Angelo and Shawn. Red meat. Poultry and Game. Seafood. Our food comes with expert advice. Free of charge!

4. Try something new. Break your routine and try something new. Clever Crow Pizza, perhaps? Consistently rated one of the best in town. Dine-in or take and bake. True Belgian Liege-style waffles at Taste of Belgium will change the way you think about waffles...forever.

Calendar of Events 2012

At the North market, we pride ourselves on holding abundant activities to celebrate local food, feature local artists and showcase local musicians and entertainers. We've put together a calendar of events for 2012 with some tried and true favorites, thrown some interesting twists into a  couple events (BEER at the Fiery Foods Weekend!) and we're even creating a brand new event in March highlighting local coffee roasters. So mark your calendars for the dates that you won't want to miss and keep an eye on our website's events page for future details!

Fiery Foods Weekend Contests

Want to get directly in on the fiery foods action during our Fiery Foods Weekend February 18-19? Customers can take a shot at fame and fortune (OK, infamy and North Market gift certificates) in a number of contests. Make great green stuff? Then the Homemade Guacamole Contest is right up your alley. If you’ve got chops with chopped avocados, it’s the one for you on Saturday, Febuary 18 at 10AM. Or maybe you like to play with fire? For you we have the Amateur Hot Sauce Contest on Saturday, February 18 at 12:30PM. Then there’s the tried and true Amateur Salsa Contest. If you’ve got a good mix of chunky or pureed fruit or vegetable salsa, put it to the test against other homemade salsa makers on Sunday, Febuary 19 at 2PM. Finally, those with iron gullets can register on the day of the event for one of the myriad fiery foods eating contests including Fiery Cornbread (Saturday at 2PM), Jalapenos (Saturday at 3:30PM), Hot Ice Cream Sundaes (Sunday at 2:45PM) and Hot Wing Eating contests (Sunday at 3:30PM). All contest winners will be rewarded with gift certificates or fiery foods prize packages.

To register for the Guacamole, Hot Sauce or Salsa Contests, please email mmartineau@northmarket.com. The Amateur Chili Cook-off is full. All fiery foods eating contests will accept registration only on the day of that event.
