September 2009

A Note From Dave

Dear North Market Shopper,

There’s a local angle to everything these days. As informed consumers participate in the marketplace local foods, local businesses and local economies now occupy an ever-important place in our community.

This weekend we’re putting a fun twist on local by hosting eight local microbreweries at our 4th Annual Columbus Microbrew Festival. Craft brewing is hot as local brewmasters impart their special touch on a wide variety or beer and ale. Not unlike winemakers, brewmasters use their knowledge, passion and creativity to create unique and tasty brews. Read the rest of Dave's note here>

Columbus Microbrew Festival This Weekend!

Ale! Ale! The gang will all be here for the Columbus Microbrew Festival at the North Market. The usual suspects in the Columbus craft brewing community will be present and accounted for during the fourth annual celebration of all things local ale-related. This year’s event will take place on Friday, September 11th from 5 – 9 p.m. and on Saturday, September 12th from noon - 7 p.m. on the second floor of the market house. It’s a great place to start a stellar weekend and warm up for the rematch of the season with OSU taking on USC at 8 p.m. on Saturday, September 12. Market to Market

Two of Columbus' premiere independent, locally-owned specialty foods markets are partnering to celebrate the bounty that Ohio producers bestow upon our great state. The Hills Market and North Market share not only a philosophical connection: one that makes it a priority to provide and promote the best Ohio has to offer to consumers, but also a physical connection: the Olentangy River Greenway (or more commonly, the Olentangy Bike Trial). Join both markets on Saturday, October 3, as they connect to celebrate the end of a great summer season with “Market to Market”: a cross-city local foods-centric bike ride, for amateurs and aficionados alike. Market to Market will be the kick-off event for Local Matters Local Foods Week in Columbus.  Get more details and register for Market to Market here>

North Market School of Cooking Classes

We love Wednesdays because that generally means that Robin Davis is at the North Market whipping up something fabulous in the Dispatch Kitchen for her weekly television show (and she's very generous about sharing samples of her creations once the filming is done). Now that Robin is also at the helm of the North Market School of Cooking we're thrilled to get to see her on even more regular occasions. Robin has constructed a wonderful schedule of classes comprised of a range of offerings including classes on the basics, ethnic cooking classes, special Sunday sessions with Robin and the ever-popular Chef Series classes. Even better, a camera and two flatscreen monitors were recently installed in the Dispatch Kitchen offering participants a birds' eye view of what's simmering on the stove!
