Weekend update for June 23 & 24, 2012

Farmers’ Market opens at 8 a.m.
Participating farms include:
Anderson Orchard: I will be bringing flats of lettuce, coleus and cucumbers.
Blossom Acres Produce: I will be bringing all naturally grown and chemical free tomatoes, garlic scapes, green garlic, kale, lettuce, sugar snap peas, onions, carrots, radishes, summer spinach, squash and zucchini.
Bridgman Farm: I am bringing lots of leaf lettuce heads, broccoli, kohlrabi, turnips and Swiss Chard. For those who grow their own, I’ll have a full line of plants for a wonderful 2012 garden.
Ehmann & Sons Greenhouse: We will have beets, green onions, kale, mustard and collard greens, radishes, Swiss chard, turnips, hanging baskets and annual plants.
Folck Family Farm: We will have black and red raspberries, honey and fresh peas.
Honeyrun Farm: We will have new Spring honey (just harvested!), Summer, and Fall honey, infused honey, honey sticks, lavender honey sticks, handcr
afted soap and beeswax candles.
K & R Garden Fresh Produce: I will have green beans, greens, sugar snap peas, squash and onions.
Lucky Cat Farm and Bakery: I will have an assortment of the following breads: baguettes, country white loaf, whole wheat, foccacia, olive ciabatta, multigrain rye, traditional french sourdough (what we call Ohio Sourdough), hearty sourdough made with half whole wheat flour, dinner rolls, blueberry scones and raspberry white chocolate scones. All the breads are specially made with great care using the best ingredients available. The scones are butter scones which are less cake-like and more like a biscuit. They are made with Vermont Creamery cultured butter, Snowville creamery heavy cream and locally pastured chicken eggs.
Ohio Farm Direct: We’ll be bringing our whole milk cheeses including cheddar, mozzarella, baby swiss, pepper jack, garlic and herb, tomato basil pinenut and lemon zest.
Oink Moo Cluck: We will have a full selection of our pork, beef and chicken selections.
Persinger Farm: I will be bringing broccoli, cabbage, collard greens, kale, okra, onions, romaine lettuce, spinach, yellow squash and zucchini.
Rhoads Farm Market: We will have blackberries, raspberries, blueberries, zuccchini, and cucumbers. Email rhoadsfm@bright.net to reserve berries.
Rock Dove Farm: I will have cilantro, head lettuce, beets, dill, mint, scallions and lambsquarter.
Somerset Greenhouse: I will be bringing: herb plants, perennial plants, annual plants, hanging baskets and planters, lettuce and some fresh herbs.
Star Leaf Farm: I will be bringing flowering datura, parlor maples, a wide selection of individual succulents, ghost pepper plants and brugmansia trees.
Summer Thyme Farm: We will have herbs, hanging baskets, black eyed susan vines, sedum, strawberry baskets, troughs and moss purses planted up.
Thomas Family Orchard: We will have blueberries and Lodi apples.
Toad Hill Farm: I will have kale, Swiss chard and six varieties of head lettuce.
Toby Run Growers: I will have shitake and oyster mushrooms.
Wayward Seed Farm: We are bringing beets, turnips, greens, lettuce, scallions and herbs.
Wishwell Farms Produce: We will have cabbage, vine ripened greenhouse tomatoes, sweet grape tomatoes, plus lettuce, sugar snap peas, spinach, and possibly collard, mustard and turnip greens, squash and zucchini.
Senior coupons and EBT cards accepted for produce.
*Community Festival is this weekend in Goodale Park. Park Street will be closed from Buttles to Swan Street. Goodale will be closed from High Street to Neil Avenue. The North Market parking lot will be reserved for Market customers only during weekend Market hours.

Community Festival
It’s the 40th annual Community Festival in Goodale Park this weekend. Commonly known as “ComFest” the event is a large, free, non-corporate, music and arts festival. You will find many of your favorite North Market merchants selling food at the event.
The festival was first held in 1972 as a showcase for a collection of community organizations including the Columbus Free Press, Free Health Clinic, Food Co-op, Tenants Union, Crisis Hotline, and Recycling Center. The festival continues to provide a forum for alternative lifestyles and collective activity. Beer from The Columbus Brewing Company is sold in large, colorful mugs to fund the cost of the festival itself and to raise money for community projects and grants. All tips from the beer booths go to homeless shelters.
National Needle Arts Association
The National Needle Arts Trade Show will be held at the Greater Columbus Convention Center June 23-25. TNNA members keep informed of the latest needlearts industry trends, ideas, products and issues. 2,500 attendees are expected.

Break out your sewing machine, grab your glue gun and get going on creating and/or decorating your apron for the 16th annual North Market Apron Gala. It’s the official fundraiser for the North Market Development Authority, the non-profit organization that runs your favorite public market. As the title of the event implies, all in attendance are encouraged to wear their favorite apron or create one in honor of the gala! Best male and female aprons will be selected and all guests wearing an apron will be entered into a drawing for a special prize. In case you lack the time and energy to create or decorate your own apron, we’ll make it easy on you:
